Finish Along - Quarter 4 goals

There is just one quarter left in 2014
and I need to put
my goals together.
For this Finish Along
only completed items count...
and I do need a strong final quarter
to get some UFO's moving!
Maybe a lot of wishful thinking,
but hey, I have to try.

Okay - here it goes:
1) Complete binding on guild mystery quilt

2) Finish b'day quilt - it has become a b'day to christmas quilt...
(sew top, quilt & bind)

3) Finish Wagon Wheel quilt
(sashing and border + quilt & bind)

4) Finish Fit for a Hero quilt
(quilt & bind)

And now comes the dream list -
I may have to quit working
and sew non-stop until xmas though...
maybe it's more a type of UFO list...

5) Finish x & + quilt
(border, quilt & bind)

6) Finish Fractured quilt
(quilt & bind)

7) Finish Garden Path quilt
(quilt & bind)

8) Finish Hawk's Nest
(complete the top, quilt & bind)

Alright then -
I better stop now ;-0

There are 8 projects and 12 weeks left,
meaning 1 1/2 week per project, hmmm.
Sometimes I just have to
list my stuff
and get re-acquainted and motivated.
Will let you know if it works...

Every single finish
will be celebrated
and means one less
carry-over project into 2015.

December Finishes Party

Just a few hours before the linky shuts down,
I managed to eek in my December finish
My goal was to add the 5 missing blocks
to my Fractured quilt
and sew the top together.
And tadaaaa:
I JUST completed the Fractured top!

I love it!
And what a great feeling here
during the last hours of 2013!

Hopefully I will have the same
determination throughout 2014
and finish some more of my UFO's.
And quilt some, too...

A big thank you to Melissa and Shanna
Without your motivation
my UFO list would be even longer.

Are YOU ready to join

Happy New Year,
Barb

Fractured QAL - and December goal setting

Have a look at my latest count of
the Fractured quilt top:
25 blocks!
Well, that's my current status
and even though the QAL
hosted by Vicki
will end this week,
I hope to complete this top
as my December goal
for "A Lovely Year of Finishes 2013".
This means sewing 5 more blocks
and sewing the top together
with  a 5 x 6 lay-out.

Thank you Vicki for hosting this QAL:
I would have never gotten that far
without the QAL support.

Design Wall Monday

Look what I finished today -
My Orca Bay top (without borders)
This was quite some intense sewing,
but now it is done!
I just have to make a decision
what type of border I want to add...

Then I have been busy with the Fractured QAL
and added 2 more blocks:
It needs some more block shuffling
until final lay-out though.

Last project and due for Thanksgiving
as a present:
hosted by Christa.
I jumped on it rather late
but the top is completed!
Tomorrow it will go on the frame,
and hopefully ready for binding on Tuesday...
Not completely happy
with my 3 red corner trees,
that was before I opted for the border,
but it'll do ;-)

Happy sewing,
Happy Thanksgiving,
Barb

Fractured Quilt Along

It is high time to post
an update on my Fractured Quilt,
even though I only added 2 blocks...
Well, when I moved the blocks
I lost track of the lay-out
and something looks funky.
I believe it is the pink block
(bottom row, 3 from left)
that's out of tune.
Oh well, it will be moved
for the next photo shoot ;-)

Fractured QAL

Before it's too late,
here is my latest Fractured Quilt Along update:
20 blocks total!
I am thinking of a 5 x 6 final lay-out,
so 10 more blocks to go.
It'll probably somehow stay an off center design.
Sewing slow and steady 1 block at a time ;-)
If I had to add up
all the un-sewing I have done per block,
I would have been done
with all 30 blocks by now...
no kidding!
Must be the late evening sewing
that throws me off.

Just saw that some people
are already working
on their 2nd Fractured Quilt -
wow, is all I can say...

Design Wall Monday

Wohoo, I finished a project -
Zig Zag top for the guild is done,
with borders and all:
Finally I got my living room floor back ;-)

I am up to 18 blocks
for my of Fractured quilt:
And while I continue to work on tumblers as leader-enders,
I finally pulled out my October project
and cut/ sewed binding for my Easy Street quilt.
A few more days left
to finish it up by the 31st:
All in all
not a bad sewing week for me!
How did your week go?

Fractured QA - week 7

Here is the 'usual' weekend link-up
for the Fractured QA -
but today I am early!
I managed to add 6 blocks to my quilt,
for a total of 18 Fractured blocks -
A new record for me!
Have a look:
I am still shuffling around my lay-out,
and searching my stash for more blues...
Go check out the link-ups

Design Wall Monday

I am still working on
3 projects simultaneously.
While it may not look
it changed much since last week,
Tumbler rows have become a top:
and it will continue to grow as leader - ender;

Zig zags have become blocks
(well most of them...)
hopefully the border fabric will pull it all together;

And 3 blocks were added to Fractured:
I really like how it is coming together,
even though slooow.

Go and be inspired by checking out
Enjoy your week,
Barb

Fractured QA - week 6

Ok, it's Sunday evening
and time to post my Fractured status:
12 blocks - slow and steady.
While I try to sew some
 in the evening after work,
it usually ends up with a seam ripper...
As long as I add blocks to it,
I should be ok.

Design Wall Monday

Not too much sewing,
but more cutting
going on at my place.
While sewing a few units
(only temporary left upper corner unit -
will be moved to outer edge of quilt)

I used the Zig Zag guild quilt pre-cut package
as leaders and enders.
It's a mix of cotton and upholstery
and who knows what,
but hopefully it will make a decent quilt.
Had some trouble
with all colored pieces being too small,
so I ended up re-cutting all HST units -
oh what fun...
I am a few units short and
the quilt just needs something else,
maybe a colorful piano key border?
Help or Suggestions, please!

Oh yes,
I had a great time at the GLHQ Guild meet
and speaker Jacquie Gering -
just one of her fabulous quilts:

Fractured QA - week 5

I know,
I am 1 week behind in the Fractured QA
due to vacation,
but I am still on it.
First off I just HAD to cut
into the blue FQ won from Vicki
and then shuffled fabrics
to find the best color combination:
Hand dyed blue and commercial orange Batik
was the final decision -
and a block C sewn up.
(colors not true, it's more orange as seen in 1st pic).
Final count: a whopping 9 blocks
What can I say:
slow and steady ;-)
The new block stands out and will find a spot
closer to the edge of final quilt,
but the 3x3 lay-out fit best in a picture...

It's coming together -
and I am linking up to Vicki's blog.
So glad she gives us until Sunday
and makes me get my act together
and post for her linky!
Happy sewing,
Barb

Design Wall Monday

Just a quick glance at my current top projects:
Vicki's Fractured QA with 7 blocks completed

and my guilds GLHQ BOM
and color study "Orange" combined -
Goose in the Pond.
It took me forever to get this block done,
just too many little pieces...
but all leftover scraps from my Fractured blocks.
(size 10 1/2 unfinished)

What's on your design wall?

Looking forward to the next guild meet on Thursday
with guest speaker Jacquie Gering.
Happy sewing,

Fractured QAL - week 4

Slow and steady -
that still seems to be my mantra
for the Fractured quilt.
Today I can show 7 total blocks
meaning I made 3 this week -
and hope to add a few more later...
But look what I found in my mailbox on Friday -
my Fractured QAL win from Vicki:
Vicki,
Thank you so much -
my very first hand dyed fabric
and it will be cut up here shortly
for another fractured block;
and a beautiful card + sticky notes,
perfect to keep the A,B,C and D blocks apart.

Linking up to this week's Fractured QAL linky,
I'll probably be the last one again,
but I am still going strong ;-)
Happy sewing,
Barb

Hope to be more productive next week...

Design Wall Monday

Well, here it goes:
while sewing my 1st Fractured block,
as leader and enders.

Then some more cutting

and both borders for the Halloween top attached
(started for the Craftbuds book month):

After having joined the GLHQ last Thurday
I picked up a kit for a donation quilt
and started sewing these HST as well:
(yes, they were somehow cut in different sizes
and I will have to square them up).
Oh, and I had to add 1 more
Halloweeny leftover spool
3 1/2 inch square:

And I finished the binding on my
but the big reveal will be
after the Monday parade...

That's about it:
sure looks like Quilters ADD..
but lots of stuff got moved along.

Fractured QA Week 2

Shortly before cut-off time
I can at least show some progress
from last week's post:
1 block "A" sewn and
 some Blue strips cut!
It's looking promising!

Design Wall Monday

Yeah, I finished
Quilting my Star Surround QA top:

Now I just have to get the binding done,
by September 15th.
It's going to be machine sewn
and I will try Susie's Magic Binding.

Then I whipped up
a quick wall hanging:
my first Halloween quilt ever.
Here it is without borders:

Test borders:
I hope to finish this quilt
by the end of September,
in the spirit of the
of using a crafts book
and actually making something out of it.
How about that?

Meantime I had joined
Vicki and the Fractured QA.
I haven't gotten far,
but one test block A (unsewn)
looks very promising:
You can see my color choices

That's it from my Design Wall.

Fractured Quilt Along

Ok, the first week of the

(pattern in this book)
hosted by Vicki,
finds me with the light fabric selection
cut into strips.

Not stellar, but it's a start!
I will pair the Yellow-Orange-Red fabrics
with blue, purple and who knows, grey/ black
to show a nice contrast.
Here are my dark fabrics so far,
uncut:

Thanks for hosting -
I just love the book
"Making Quilts"
By Kathy Doughty
and jumped at the QA!
It always gives me a bit more
of accountability...
I just hope I won't be
a lonely slow-poke ;-)

Happy sewing,
or for me rather cutting,
