Finishes Party - September

Before September is over
here in a few days
I better get my September finish post written for
My goal was to finish
the Star Surround Quilt
(backing, quilt, bind) -
And I made it!
I even used a new binding method
and love the flange:
here is the backing fabric

Design Wall Monday

Yeah, I finished
Quilting my Star Surround QA top:

Now I just have to get the binding done,
by September 15th.
It's going to be machine sewn
and I will try Susie's Magic Binding.

Then I whipped up
a quick wall hanging:
my first Halloween quilt ever.
Here it is without borders:

Test borders:
I hope to finish this quilt
by the end of September,
in the spirit of the
of using a crafts book
and actually making something out of it.
How about that?

Meantime I had joined
Vicki and the Fractured QA.
I haven't gotten far,
but one test block A (unsewn)
looks very promising:
You can see my color choices

That's it from my Design Wall.

September - Goal Setting Party

I have been trying to make up my mind
which goal to pick for September for:
I will be having visitors for 2 weeks
and probably not much time.
Ok, then let's get the
Star Surround quilt finished.

Meaning: quilt & bind
my 40 inch square 1 star block quilt!
So it can't become a UFO
and will be given to someone, soon.
Don't expect any fancy-dancy FMQ quilting,
just getting it done with proven methods,
is going to work (aka ez boards ;-0)

And if I can make it it time,
I better find a backing fabric in my stash...

Star Surround QA - top pieced!

I just finished piecing my Star Surround top,
just in time to link up to Melissa's blog post:
I really like the combination
of flower and geometric fabric.
It's perfect
and turned out nicer
than I thought it would!

I loved everything about this QA -
so glad I participated and
made this 40 x 40 top.
Thanks Melissa,
for a job very well done -
and the final linky count shows it!
So go and check out all the other
Now I just got to quilt and bind it
to be in the Parade on September 16th ...

Design Wall Monday

As always I am juggling
several projects at once.
First up is my August UFO project -
Quilting Easy Street:
I have chosen dimpled Minky as backing
(a first for me)
- no batting -
and am using the Flaired Clam shell EZ boards
(you can see the white boards on the left).

And one more picture:
I just love how it's turning out!
Hope I can finish quilting
by the end of the month!

Then I worked on getting the latest step
of the Star Surround QA done.
We made the corner and side units:

Meantime I continue to sew
on the x & + quilt -
and then there were 9 blocks

And just because,
have a look at my latest visitor:
Sitting on my Rhododendron,
and having a good time ( I hope).
He can stay as long as he wants,
nothing like Judy's scorpions...

Star Surround QA - Surrounds

I love this Quilt Along!
Although I do feel like
I am Mrs Slow-Poke
and before I've even read
the new instructions,
the first pictures
have already been linked up.

Well, what can I say
I am still in the game,
and still on time ;-)

4 "M-blocks"

and 4 corner blocks.
Thanks Melissa
for excellent instructions!
Go and check out

Are you still on board of the QA?

Happy sewing,
Barb

Star Surround Quilt Along - Center Star

After 1 week of vacation
and 1 week of work travel,
I am catching up to the
My flying geese are done,
(but not photographed)
and here is the latest installment:

Star Center
I like it!
Glad I chose just the 1 block 40 inch square version
and am glad to be caught up.
Here is  Melissa's linky party -
go and have a look at all the other
Star Surround pictures!
Happy sewing,
it's good to be back at home,

Star Surround - QA

Before I am left behind
in the Star Surround Quilt Along,
I just sewed the 1st step
Half Square Triangles.

Easy - peasy,
especially with Melissa's
And since I am just doing a 1 star block quilt,
I was done in no time: nice!

You don't have to do a gazillion blocks,
just do one big block,
maybe for charity,
and put a smile on someone's face!
Melissa has you covered
with a ton of different sizes and lay-outs.

Cutting for Star Surround QA

Ok,
before I miss the deadline,
I better get my fabric cut
and posted to Melissa's linky party:

I am making a 1 star block quilt of 40 x 40,
that's all I can commit to at this moment,
but it should turn into a nice charity quilt.
Come and join!

And just because -
look at the cute spool blocks 3 1/2 x 3 1/2
I made from the leftover:

Star Surround Quilt-A-long

You know how you sometimes end up on blogs
and don't know how you got there?
But then you see something
and sign up for it
just because
there is no way of ignoring it:

Melissa's size option are
INCREDIBLE!
The main reason
I am considering (ha, who am I fooling?) joining:
a  perfect donation quilt size -
a 1 block quilt
should be doable.

Bonus: a 40 x 40 size
uses just 1 piece for the backing.
Love it!

My fabric selection:
* top 2 fabrics for the star,
* flower for the surround
* and white background.
I am usually slow and indecisive
in my fabric selection,
but this should work.

Thanks, Melissa
for helping me get back
my sewing and blogging mojo,
Barb
