Design Wall Monday

Good morning!
First of is my slowly growing Hexagon Quilt in Neptune. I am finally convinced that you cannot go wrong with Neptune, no matter how you match up the different colors, they just go perfectly together. Love hexagons and probably will do more after the Hexagon Quilt Along is over - so many possibilities! Here is a mixed hex star block:

And the 2 QfK with the borders finally sewn on, one with a yellow and one with a red first border:

Design Wall Monday

Another week with only little sewing going on in my household. I put borders on 2 QFK's quilts and that's about it. Rather boring - I agree and one of the quilts still needs the 2nd /last border.

The plan for this week is to sew a few more blocks for the Neptune Hexagon Quilt along. And another block for the Jelly roll sampler quilt.

Well, as shown on the stash report I had finished the Spice socks and moved on to the 1st Purple Rain sock. Originally I wanted to try the loop method, but it was easier to stick to the known 5 needles and go from there...

Supposedly it was a striped yarn, but it ended up to be diagonal stripes - and I quite like it! I believe it's called 'pooling'.

 The question is: how will sock # 2 turn out?

Design Wall Monday

It was another rainy weekend here in SE Michigan which means: I had time to sew and catch up on several projects.

First up is the 5th block of the jelly roll quilt sampler:

Followed by 3 'Quilt for kids' leader-ender projects that I managed to squeeze in while finishing the 'Simply a Bloom' top. They still need some borders though:

And last but not least I finally got to sew the 1st & 2nd Hexagon quilt along blocks together. I am still 1 step short before having caught up, but I like my Neptune blocks! There are 2 mixed blocks in the bottom right corner - they were leftovers and I will find a spot for them...

And finally the 'Spice Socks' are pretty much both at the same stage: ready for the toe!

Design wall Monday

I know: it's late for a design wall post, but it still is Monday. Somehow I ran out of MOJO and only a few minutes ago got my act together... Ok, so here we go.
First I had finished another block of the jelly roll sampler quilt along.

As mentioned in my stash report, I was going to cut some more fabric for QFK kits that I could easily use as leaders & enders. I found a 'ship ahoy' kids print and added yellow & red for the 4 patches. Not too bad. I actually had enough material to cut 2 sets!

While going through my fabric I came across the brown football print - and am open to your suggestions which colors you would use for the 4 patch.

Meantime I am still working on 'Simply a bloom', but you have seen the quilt top already too many times.

Just a quick post during the week: yesterday I found out that I had won one of the C&T giveaways! Yippeeeh! A price pack with beautiful patterns by Bari J. and a tote kit will be mine, soon! What a nice surprise - especially with this timing: it's my b'day this month...

Design Wall Monday

Well, after an almost no-sew week, I managed to get some things done on Sunday. Last minute, but still in time for design wall:

First off is the (original) completed 4-patch top for "Quilts for Kids". My plan was to add a 2nd quilt to the package - and that was quickly cut & sewn up today: the 'Bear in the woods' 4-patch.
And I had to dive in a started project bag and pull out string and scrap blocks - made out of the flannel leftovers from the last Project Linus Blanket Party. These blocks may not be the most creative way, but it was quite a workload to get all these narrow strips sewn up.
Next step will be to make square blocks out of the rectangular strings and add a border.
For the 'wonky log cabin' blocks I guess I have to add some kind of sashing to even them out in size. I will have a look around to see what wonky options are floating around in blog land.

Design Wall Monday

Here is my scattered design wall, probably mirroring my state of mind lately. First of all the house blocks for Bumble Beans BASICS home gather.

Please: if you have a few minutes and some fabric strips, make a 10 1/2 inch house block and send it to her for homeless families in NYC. You can read all the details here - or click on the house block button on the right side of my blog.

Next up are a few of the crumbs blocks I made in 4 1/2 inch size - they will be collected until I have enough for a quilt top.

And on we go to the Quilts for Kids/ Downy Touch of comfort campaign quilt. I had received a pattern and fabric pack and here is the lay-out of the 4-patch Fairy Quilt. Currently I have planned to finish this quilt with the supplied fabrics and add one with fabric from my stash. This may be perfect for the skating bear fabric I had used in the 'Hoo's...?' quilt

Design wall Monday

Yes, it is final: my computer hard drive blew and I need a new one - just what I needed. It makes you realize how depending I am on a functioning computer and Internet connection...
As for my design wall: 'Hoo's in the forest?' by Julie Herman is a completed top, needs backing and then off to quilt it.
I also started cutting quite a few houses for BASCIS Home gather and will sew them into blocks this week.





And to top it of: today I received the "Quilts for Kids" package from the Downy campaign and will be making a Four-Patch quilt with Fairy fabric. I had seen it on somebody's blog, thought it was a great idea and signed up. That was just a few days ago - and I received the fabric + pattern package today.
