Oops - no daisy!

I have been following the
and here is my current status:
Have to change the name though from
"Dozens of Daisies"
to
"Oops - no Daisy"  ;-)
The pattern asks for 72 petals appliqued,
and that's out of my league...
Maybe I'll add some in the middle - we'll see how it goes.

The real quilt is much more colorful,
but my camera and the low evening light isn't helping.
Still need to add borders:

And another project in the making:
Houndstooth quilt -
this time with a dash of Orange

The binding will be orange, too.

Both quilts will be donated
and their next quilt drive
with Victoria and Pat.

I am linking up to Design Wall Monday

Enjoy your week,
Barb

Progress

I made 2 more pieced houses for Bumble Beans.
And I managed to knit the boomerang heel on my latest socks. Somehow I really like the color combination of this yarn - I call it 'It's finally Spring' - maybe that's the reason I like it so much!
There is a slight chance I will finish the sock this week: I have to get my car maintenance done and the waiting time is perfect for mindless knitting!
Still messing around with some stomach issues. I really hope this is the last of the bug.
Until next time,
Barb

Design Wall Monday

As mentioned in my stash report on Sunday, I have been busy sewing additional house blocks for Bumble Beans.
This time I fuzzy cut houses and added borders. They came in red, blue and yellow and here you can see the stacks of the blocks.

I ran out of border fabric and had to substitute some in the end, but all in all 33 blocks will be on the way to NYC on Monday or Tuesday. They just have to be squared and off they go.

It will be Victoria's 'trouble' to incorporate them... somehow. Well, that's what you get when you let an engineer loose onto house blocks on a rainy weekend ;)) and hopefully I didn't stretch the block rules too much.

Please have a look at other design walls by visiting Judy's blog.
Have a good start into the week,
Barb

First quilt blocks

I just read Bumble Beans request for more blocks for her BASICS home gather project. So I looked for my very first ever quilt blocks and pulled them out. It was a Hancocks Fabric BOM from a couple of years ago...
If you don't like Blue, Green and Yellow - you're out o'luck. And yes: they are bright, I mean BRIGHT!

They are about 12 " square - probably meant to be 12 1/2", but remember this is my very first project and 1/4 inch didn't mean anything to me...I got a total of 12 different blocks.
V, if you think you could cut tilted (?) or wonky 10 1/2" blocks out of them or if you want me to do it: they are yours. Maybe you have an even better way of using them? Obviously if you hate them and don't see any use for them, I understand. What can I say: they are "special" in color and chosen pattern.

Please let me know in my comments!

Thanks, Barb

Wonky Log Cabin

Just a quick post with a picture of the wonky log cabin blocks. Not too shabby - though the camera operator could have done a nicer job... Hope to sew the blocks together, add a border and finish it up as a blanket by Saturday, so it can find a home as a Project Linus Blanket.
And today the Jelly roll sampler quilt along by Moose on the Porch quilt started - well, my 1st block has to wait until Sunday. Luckily they post a new block every 2 weeks, perfect time frame for me!
Oh yes, Bumble Beans received my house blocks in the mail - if you haven't made one yet, please go to her website and support her BASICS home gather with a 10 1/2 inch house block!

On the fitness front: No x-c skiing today, it's too warm and melting. I guess I have to go back to some fitness center workouts if it doesn't snow soon.

Have a great 1st week of March!

Design Wall Monday

Here is my scattered design wall, probably mirroring my state of mind lately. First of all the house blocks for Bumble Beans BASICS home gather.

Please: if you have a few minutes and some fabric strips, make a 10 1/2 inch house block and send it to her for homeless families in NYC. You can read all the details here - or click on the house block button on the right side of my blog.
Next up are a few of the crumbs blocks I made in 4 1/2 inch size - they will be collected until I have enough for a quilt top.

And on we go to the Quilts for Kids/ Downy Touch of comfort campaign quilt. I had received a pattern and fabric pack and here is the lay-out of the 4-patch Fairy Quilt. Currently I have planned to finish this quilt with the supplied fabrics and add one with fabric from my stash. This may be perfect for the skating bear fabric I had used in the 'Hoo's...?' quilt
That's it from my end -please check out what other quilter's are working on by visiting Judy at Patchwork Time.

First House block

I figured I may as well test how easy this new laptop is to use for photos and blogging. So here is the very first house block I have ever made in my life and of course it is for BASICS home gather! My original idea was to make BumbleBeans house blocks, but when my hard drive crashed, I had no way of getting online and following her instructions. So I searched through some older magazines and came across this house ( McCalls Quilting October 2009) - and lo and behold it was for a 10 1/2 inches block.
I have managed to pre-cut quite some small print fabric and will make "lefties and righties" - if that is even a way of describing which way a house faces (in my eyes the pic shows a lefties). The production line of sewing house blocks will start soon. My goal is to eliminate my small prints fabrics - even though that may mean a lot of the houses will be done with the same fabric. Guess I have to count on all of you to add more & different house blocks and spread out my creations...

Got to run to the gym - wasn't feeling balanced enough on my feet to put on the x-country skis.
Have a good one,
Barb

Design wall Monday

Yes, it is final: my computer hard drive blew and I need a new one - just what I needed. It makes you realize how depending I am on a functioning computer and Internet connection...
As for my design wall: 'Hoo's in the forest?' by Julie Herman is a completed top, needs backing and then off to quilt it.
I also started cutting quite a few houses for BASCIS Home gather and will sew them into blocks this week.

And to top it of: today I received the "Quilts for Kids" package from the Downy campaign and will be making a Four-Patch quilt with Fairy fabric. I had seen it on somebody's blog, thought it was a great idea and signed up. That was just a few days ago - and I received the fabric + pattern package today.

Check out a whole bunch of other design walls at Judy's blog!

Now I just have to figure out how to get my photos onto this computer and on the blog... Got that.
I will visit and comment your design walls once I have my new laptop!

Bumble Beans BASICS Home Gather

When I read Bumble Beans initiative to collect 10 1/2" house blocks in support of BASICS home gather I thought that would be a great "in-between" project.
Even though I only committed to 1 block I very much hope to do more. I just never know what life&work is going to throw at me and I don't like to promise and not deliver.
Please go and visit BASICS Home Gather - follow the instructions and sew a block or 2. You won't believe it, but I even managed to add the BASICS button to my side bar - and that on a Friday evening after a rather challenging work week - wahoo!
Hm, that means I am all set for Judy's Quiltathon: sew "Hoo's in the forest?" top and sew at least 1 house block for Bumble Beans.
All week I shuffled my fabrics around for "Hoo's..." (by Julie Herman) and finally broke down and bought (gasp) 2 yards of fabric. The look has changed for the better ( I think) and I look forward to sewing it together. This must be the first project where I actually cut all the pieces first, arranged (and re-arranged) them and then started sewing. A complete new concept for me - not yet sure if I like it or not.
TGIF,
Barb
