Oops. But better one than none!

Design Wall Monday

Ok, after yet another unplanned blogging break
I am back with my latest projects:
finished the quilting on Hashtag quilt today
and just sewed the binding
to the front.
It's my April UFO
and I better get the binding
hand stitched to the back
by Wednesday April 30th...

Also sewn is the HST Charity top,
minus the border:
(oops, the quilt underneath
is showing on bottom edge, sorry)

And I have been playing around with Hexagons
for the Quilt Guild challenge:
used some Honeycomb "Sunnyside"
and Craftsy Class pattern "Juggle" by Camille Roskelley,
trying to decide on background fabric:
Then I got Sarah  Fielke's book
"Hand quilted with love"
from the library and
love her "Bangles quilt",
but not so much the hand sewing or y-seams.
So here is my easy Bangles approach:
sew 6 pentagons from her pattern into a hexie ring
and applique them on your background fabric!
See the first test ring on the left:

If I am attempting this quilt
I'll be using raw edge on white fabric,
even with some white edges showing thru
between the rings,
I imagine it's going to look fabulous!

So what have you been up to?
Hopefully some sewing made it into your schedule!

the clock is ticking,

Finish Along - Quarter 2 goals

My Finish Along is slow going here at Paint Creek Quilt,
but every completed quilt is one less UFO.

So I will be doing a
roll-over
of some of my FAL Q1 goals
and hope this time they'll get done!

Coming right up my Q2 list:
1) Quilt and Bind Hashtag top

2) Quilt and Bind X&+ top

3) Quilt and Bind Fit for a Hero top

4) Complete Lenora's b'day signature quilt
This has still a long way to go,
but would love to finish it in May:
* add sashing strips,
* sew blocks into top
* add border,
* quilt & bind...
5) Complete Celtic Solstice quilt
Meaning: add borders, quilt & bind
6) Complete Orca Bay quilt
Borders, quilt and bind

Can you see a theme here?
Trying to tackle my
"Mount TBQ (To-Be-Quilted)" -
let's hope it'll shrink in Q2!

Happy quilting
and good luck with your goals,

April - goal setting party for ALYOF

It is such a great motivator
of joining so many quilters
and getting things done -
so here is my April goal for
I would like to get my
Hashtag top quilted:

This means first I need to sew the backing,
then load and quilt it.
Still deciding on the quilting motive though...
I'll be using the border fabric
"Florence" by Denyse Schmidt
for the backing as well
and sure hope I have enough on hand.

Check out the linky list
and join!

Happy sewing,
Barb

ALYOF - February finish party

My February goal was to finish
the Hashtag quilt top -
I added:
* the long sashing strips
* the small white inner border
* the wide outer border

Here is the before pic:
and the after pic:
Linking up to the finish party!
As always,
thank you to Melissa and Shanna
for hosting ALYOF!!
I am so glad I participated
and another UFO bites the dust,
hmm, well, rather moved to the to-be-quilted pile...

Off to decide on my March UFO,

Design Wall Monday

So glad that on Saturday
we had a sew-day
organized by the GLHQ.
As always I had a great time
and got tons of sewing done:
The Hashtag quilt top is my February UFO
and I am all done - with time to spare
wohoo!
(pattern from Camille's Craftsy class)
Had some good times
matching the outer border print,
but it worked!

Next project:
sew the blocks of "Fit for a Hero" -
free pattern by Judy at Patchwork Times.
As you can see
I am still missing the 4 corner blocks,
(and borders)
but am glad to have the blocks assembled
into the quilt's 'middle' section.
At least now I can't loose
or misplace them any longer...

And in preparation for
in May 2014,
I have started to sew HST's.
For ease and speed
I am using triangle paper
and it is perfect mindless sewing
after a day at work.
It may not look like much,
but these are 192 HST's (of 504 needed...),
size is 2 inch unfinished.

ALYOF - February Goal Setting Party

It's the first of the month
and amazingly I am organized enough
to post my February goal for:
Here it is:

Finish my Hashtag Quilt top
(pattern from Camille's Craftsy class)
which means:
* add sashing between rows
* add white skinny border
* add outer border with DS fabric

As always thanks to
  Shanna and Melissa
for hosting ALYOF
and helping me get stuff done!

Finish Along 2014 Q1

Ok, I am trying on all fronts
to make 2014 the year of quilty finishes,
get UFO's moving into completed quilts.

So I joined Katy at  'The littlest thistle
and her Finish Along 2014.
What a perfect fit -
details here!

This is my Q1 list -
and before I come to my senses,
I better post it:
1) Complete x&+ quilt
(rows are sewn)

2) Complete Cathedral Star quilt
(need miles of binding...)

3) Complete Hashtag quilt
(rows are sewn)

4) Complete Celtic Solstice
(blocks to finish and more)

5) Complete Lenora's B'day signature quilt
(blocks done, layout / sashing pending)

6) Complete Orca Bay
(top done, border decision needed)

7) Complete "Fit for a Hero"
(border needs to be pieced, then top sewn)

Well, this is more a year long list,
-not a quarter-
but whatever doesn't get done
I will roll over to the next quarter.
Come and join,

Wish me luck,
I may need the help of some snow days...
Yet every finish is a success!

Design Wall Monday

First: my stats for Bonnie Hunter's
Celtic Solstice mystery -
I mainly worked on the Chevrons
and still have miles to sew
for steps 3 + 4 + 5...
Step 1 - done (in box)
Step 2 - 94 of 100 Chevrons, almost there!!!
Step 3 - 7 pinwheel blocks of 25
Step 4 - 25 of 120 Four-patch
Step 5 - 0 of 100 split triangle unit...

Then I gave myself a xmas present,
used some stash and this is the result:
a Hashtag soon-to-be quilt top,
pattern by Camille at Thimble Blossoms,
part of her Craftsy Class.
I really enjoy her way of
organizing and sewing!

I used Bonnie's method of
webbing the top for the first time
and could only put
one sashing strip on my lay-out.
The webbing method works better
with sashing strips and cornerstones,
but I had to try it and like it!
Love how the border fabric fits the block pattern!
Fabric is a Jelly roll of Chicopee and Kona white.
The border is Florence, also from Denyse Schmidt.

I am really hoping to finish my Hashtag top today,
then pull out the blocks of Judy's "Fit for a Hero" quilt,
get the corner blocks sewn
and the top prepared for her pieced borders.
I am off all week
and we'll see what I can manage,
not to forget my December goal
of getting 5 more blocks done fore Fractured..

I almost forgot:
as xmas presents I made several
folded star trivetrs,
following  Bronze Wombat's tutorial
This was my first one
and the color choices not yet perfect.
My 2nd one - I only got an incomplete shot
Luckily I am off all week
and should have time
to get quite some sewing done!

Happy New Year!
