Design Wall Monday

Here is my finished top and it will probably be renamed from Carolina Christmas (by Bonnie Hunter) into "The Monster". It's HUGE - I mean bigger than anything else I have ever made 94 x 94 inches (or 2.38 m x 2.38m)

My borders may disappoint some people, but the outer border was my focus fabric or more so a guide line for the colors of the quilt. And as mentioned before: pieced borders never fit in my world, no matter the calculations and attempts of a correct 1/4 inch seam.

Well, I like it - I loved the border fabric when I first saw it and believe it completes the quilts perfectly! Now off to find fabric for the "monster" backing which should put quite a dent in my stash...
This week I finally got Quiltmakers magazine in the mail - and when I saw the pattern 'Hoo's in the Forest?' by Julie Herman I thought it would be perfect for a 'skiing bear' fabric in my stash. Here is what I managed to cut and lay out:

Yep, I know: it's another project, but I needed something fun and small (and from stash). Still mulling over the greens for the trees - maybe I find something better next week.

Go and check Judy's blog and see what other design walls look like!

Have a great week,

Barb

  4. I love your version of the Carolina Christmas. The colors are wonderful! I also like the borders and the fabric and probably would have done the same thing....LOL, mine probably would have been because I was tired of piecing all those little pieces on a quilt that large!

Beautiful, and so is your newest project!
