A lovely Year of Finishes: 2014 finale

First off:
Happy New Year!
Wishing you time for lots of
quilty stuff in 2015!

While during the 2nd half of 2014
I wasn't very successful in finishes,
I had a fairly decent start.
Overall I still managed to get
7 goals completed!

Not too shabby!

October Goal setting Party - ALYoF

So many choices,
so little time.
Which project to pick
as my October goal for ALYoF?
Hmmmm,
urgent removal of Hawk's Nest blocks
from my living room floor!!!
So here it goes:
complete sewing all blocks together in a top.
Just the blocks,
border decision will follow later.
Here is the current status:
Hawk's Nest - Bonnie Hunter pattern
Well,
let's get sewing.
Come and join the linky party here.

Have a great weekend,

September finishes party - ALYoF

It's the 30th of September
and I almost forgot to link up
my ALYoF September goal of
binding my "Flower Bed" quilt:

It's not my best machine binding ever,
but with sinus, ear and teeth infection
it's the best I could manage!

September goal setting party - ALYoF

After having successfully
completed my August goal,
I need to chose
a new goal for September.

So how about this one:
get the binding on my charity quilt
"Flower Bed": ( Scraps Plus One - book).
Binding: my least favorite thing to do...
and yes, it will be machine sewn.
But that's the goal,
the clock is ticking...
Come and join Melissa and Shanna
for ALYoF

Once the binding is done
I can also link up to the
since it is a pattern out of a book
and was completed in September 2014.
Nice!

Got to dig for binding fabric
and get started,
Barb

ALYoF - August finish party

It's Friday evening
and I just pulled the mystery quilt
off my frame: yeah - done!

And after:
It looks good, too.
Another UFO bites the dust!

It was my August goal for ALYoF
to quilt this top
and I made it with a few days to spare.

Without the incentive
and blogging peer pressure
and Melissa's & Shawna's link up,
nothing quilty would get done at my  house ;-)
Thanks, ladies!

Now as a reward
I may consider startting a brand new project,
how about that?

Happy Labor Day weekend sewing,

August goal party - ALYoF

When I look at my pile of UFO's
it seems hard to pick one
Way too many choices...
but it needs to be something doable.
I should probably tackle
my mount-to-be-quilted.
It has the highest success rate, too.

So here is my pick:
Quilt the guild mystery quilt -
it was started in February 2014.
First I'll have to search
for a suitable backing.
Then I'll probably use
my trusted loopy star groovy boards
for quilting -
and hope all can be done
by the end of August!

how motivating it is

July ALYoF - finish party

I just took MB's top
off my quilting frame -
meaning  I have reached my July goal
for ALYoF!!!
Here is the BEFORE picture
of the top:
It's a free Bonnie Hunter pattern
and we all took her workshop together
a while back.

Finished version:

Yes, it was a struggle
- with flannel backing and high loft batting -
almost too much for my poor short arm,
but it turned out okay.
Hope to give it on to the next quilting friend
so she can attach the binding
before it will be given back
to MB's family.

ALYoF: July goal setting

Before it's too late,
I am submitting my July goal for:
My best friend Judy helped me
getting the flannel backing for MB's quilt done,
so now it's ready to get quilted:
So my July goal is
to load and quilt this quilt top.
Then it will be given to
yet another friend LaVerne for binding
and it can finally be presented to the family.

May - goal setting party for ALYOF

Well, May will be a busy sewing month for me,
but I'll try to tackle the following goal for
quilt my Fit for a Hero top!

That also means
I have to prepare the backing fabric.
Can't wait to see my to-be-quilted pile
shrink a little more...

April - Finish party

With 1 day to spare,
I met my goal for April's ALYOF,
wohooo!

Before picture of Hashtag quilt top listed
as my April goal:

And the after picture,
taken a few minutes ago: quilted and bound:
with hand sewn binding:
Not sure why
I always have to wait until the last minute,
but it's done and that's a great success!

Melissa and Shanna -
as always thanks for hosting!
This quilt would not be done
 without your ALYOF!

April - goal setting party for ALYOF

It is such a great motivator
of joining so many quilters
and getting things done -
so here is my April goal for
I would like to get my
Hashtag top quilted:

This means first I need to sew the backing,
then load and quilt it.
Still deciding on the quilting motive though...
I'll be using the border fabric
"Florence" by Denyse Schmidt
for the backing as well
and sure hope I have enough on hand.

Check out the linky list
and join!

Happy sewing,
Barb

ALYOF - March goal setting

Ok, here it goes -
my March goal for
Finish my "Fit for a Hero" quilt top
(free pattern by Judy L.)
It means:
* add the corner blocks
* and cut & sew 4 (!) borders
You may recall
that I am not a fan of borders,
especially the sizing & sewing
without stretching...
Will give it my best try...

ALYOF - February Goal Setting Party

It's the first of the month
and amazingly I am organized enough
to post my February goal for:
Here it is:

Finish my Hashtag Quilt top
(pattern from Camille's Craftsy class)
which means:
* add sashing between rows
* add white skinny border
* add outer border with DS fabric

As always thanks to

ALYOF January - Finishes Party

I am not sure how it happened,
but January just flew by.
Before it's too late,
for ALYOF
to finish my x & + top:
And indeed:
It is complete!
I changed my original lay-out
to a 6 x 6
and even had to make 1 more block
out of leftovers.
Love the end result!

January - Goal setting

For the 2nd year in a row
I am joining Melissa and Shanna and their
A Lovely Year of Finishes,
so I better get my goal written up
and started on the project!

There is a pile of blocks sitting close to me
that really need to be sewn into a top.
So my January goal is
to sew one more block
( for a total of 35),
then arrange the final pleasing layout,
of my X &+ quilt blocks,
and finally sew the blocks together into a quilt top.
I better go and find some fabric
that'll fit right in
and get started...

Come and join
and get 1 project done in January!
