Hawk's Nest - top done!

I am catching up on things,
unreal but true!
Have a look at my
completed Hawk's Nest top:
(Bonnie Hunter pattern)

Instead of an extreme border
with over 400 HST's
I saw this fabulous fabric
and took the easy way out -
love it!

Well,
I see lots of quilting in 2015
to make a dent in my stack of tops.

What's next?
Can I finish one more top
in 2014?

Hapi top completed - and more

Yes, I did it!
The Hapi top is done!
It feels great -
And I love it!
(Please ignore my neglected deck and weird shadows.)

Since I was on a roll,
I pulled another lingering project
and started on the borders as well.
Hawk's Nest with inner blue border sewn
and outer border cut, not yet sewn.
(Hawk's Nest pattern by Bonnie Hunter.)

Wish I could be that efficient
throughout the year,
but unfortunately it comes in spurts.
As in an "end of year" challenge to myself.
But I do like the results ;-)

Off to sew some more,
Barb

Design Wall Monday

I had a great sew-in
this Saturday
and worked on a few projects.

Main success:
finishing my Hawk's Nest top
and with the fantastic help
of my sewing companions
making the inner border decision!

Close-up with navy dotted inner border:
I love it
and I do have enough fabric left
to make it happen!
I also attached the binding
on my guild mystery quilt
and am slowly hand stitching it down.
One side down,
3 more to go.
Not bad for me
and my binding phobia!

Go check out

Happy stitching,
Barb

Finish Along - Quarter 4 goals

There is just one quarter left in 2014
and I need to put
my goals together.
For this Finish Along
only completed items count...
and I do need a strong final quarter
to get some UFO's moving!
Maybe a lot of wishful thinking,
but hey, I have to try.

Okay - here it goes:
1) Complete binding on guild mystery quilt

2) Finish b'day quilt - it has become a b'day to christmas quilt...
(sew top, quilt & bind)

3) Finish Wagon Wheel quilt
(sashing and border + quilt & bind)

4) Finish Fit for a Hero quilt
(quilt & bind)

And now comes the dream list -
I may have to quit working
and sew non-stop until xmas though...
maybe it's more a type of UFO list...

5) Finish x & + quilt
(border, quilt & bind)

6) Finish Fractured quilt
(quilt & bind)

7) Finish Garden Path quilt
(quilt & bind)

8) Finish Hawk's Nest
(complete the top, quilt & bind)

Alright then -
I better stop now ;-0

There are 8 projects and 12 weeks left,
meaning 1 1/2 week per project, hmmm.
Sometimes I just have to
list my stuff
and get re-acquainted and motivated.
Will let you know if it works...

Every single finish
will be celebrated
and means one less
carry-over project into 2015.

I guess this means:
sew, sew, sew,
sew, sew,

Design Wall Monday

I am currently working
on sewing my Hawk's Nest blocks
into a top:
the 4 bottom right diagonal rows
have been sewn together.
Then I came across
this border fabric:
The photo doesn't show the exact colors,
but hopefully you get the idea.
Please let me know:
Do you like the border fabric?

The original quilt has a million HST
in the outer border
which I won't manage
to sew in my lifetime...
So I thought the effect
of this busy chevron-arrow fabric
is similar
and perfect for the quilt...
Maybe I need not a cheddar,
but different color smaller inner border?

Well,
will be linking up to Judy's

October Goal setting Party - ALYoF

So many choices,
so little time.
Which project to pick
as my October goal for ALYoF?
Hmmmm,
urgent removal of Hawk's Nest blocks
from my living room floor!!!
So here it goes:
complete sewing all blocks together in a top.
Just the blocks,
border decision will follow later.
Here is the current status:
Hawk's Nest - Bonnie Hunter pattern
Well,
let's get sewing.
Come and join the linky party here.

Have a great weekend,

Design Wall Monday / Sunday preview

And I have yet another
Sunday evening update
on my Hawk's Nest quilt:
(pattern by Bonnie Hunter in her book "Scraps and Shirttails 2")
30 nest blocks done!
Wohoo!
I may stick to the 5 x 6
block on point setting
and call it good.
Still hesitating
if the size it big enough for me,
I am almost 6 feet tall...
Better sew some
of the missing hourglass blocks
and see how it looks overall.

Will be linking up to
once it is available.
Have a great week,
Barb

More "nest" blocks!

I have been quite busy
and added 5 new blocks
to my Hawk's Nest quilt:
(pattern by Bonnie Hunter
from her book "Scraps and Shirttails 2")
Total count: 26 nest blocks!!!
There will be a decision time coming soon
on how many more rows
I want to add.

I just love how it is coming along!
And the fact that I am sticking with it ;-)
- at least for now...

Okay, back to sewing HST's,
and some hour glass blocks as well,
Barb

Design Wall Monday

My Sunday evening design wall:
 I made some progress
with my Hawk's Nest quilt
(pattern by Bonnie Hunter).
Latest count shows 21 nest block!
Here it is in on-point setting:
I will probably need
9 more nest blocks
or maybe even 14
to get a decent size lap quilt.
Can I make it
before my next workshop
with Bonnie at the end of September?

Will join the DWM link list
on Judy's blog on Monday,
Barb

Hawk's Nest - update!

Please have a look
at my latest Hawk's Nest status:
18 nest blocks!!!
I surprised myself -
and hope to add a few more
during the month of September.

Design Wall Monday

Happy Labor Day everyone!
Wow, it seems like my computer and blog and flickr
are not cooperating today
and taking it sloooow.

Update on Hawk's Nest -
a Bonnie Hunter pattern in her book
I now have 12 nest blocks!
Wohoo, they are coming along,
slow and steady:
Still need quite a few more blocks,
but won't go for Bonnie's size of 73 x 84;
just a good lap size quilt
will do it for me!

Enjoy your Labor Day,
and add some sewing to your schedule ,

Design Wall Monday (or rather Friday evening)

While cleaning up my sewing room,
I came across a UFO from November 2013:
started during a workshop with Sandy Klopp.
The idea of moving (or losing)
the pre-cut pieces one more time,
just didn't do it for me today.
So I started sewing...
Before:
And after some major curve sewing
- with acceptable success -
Tadaa, all 4 blocks are done!
Now I have to make a decision
if I want to add a piano key border.
It will be just a wall hanging
to remind me that I DO KNOW
how to sew curves ;-)

So glad I tackled it
on a somewhat dreary Sunday.

Quick update on Hawk's Nest -
a few more blocks were pieced
whenever I found a few minutes to sew.
Slow going,
but every block counts!
After all there are
41 pieces in 1 nest block:
On Monday morning

Design Wall Monday

Wow, what a busy week it has been!
Lecture with Bonnie Hunter at the GLHQ guild -
(sadly no pictures since I was a quilt holder).
And Saturday her workshop "Hawks Nest"
with a ton of HST's:
3 blocks done in class,
and added 4 more today!
Just counting the actual Hawk's Nest blocks,
not the hour glass blocks.
Love the quilt -
you can find the pattern in Bonnie's book
This is Bonnie's original!

What a great time we had -
find more pictures

I also got the center part
of the Hexagon top sewn:
So, how was your sewing week?

Linking up to
16 HST per Hawk's Nest block should qualify
Total 504 HST's (!!!) for the blocks +
438 HST's for the extreme border...
That's a LOT of HST's;
I am opting for a smaller size quilt
and will see about the border later :-)

Have a great week,
Barb

Design Wall Monday

So glad that on Saturday
we had a sew-day
organized by the GLHQ.
As always I had a great time
and got tons of sewing done:
The Hashtag quilt top is my February UFO
and I am all done - with time to spare
wohoo!
(pattern from Camille's Craftsy class)
Had some good times
matching the outer border print,
but it worked!

Next project:
sew the blocks of "Fit for a Hero" -
free pattern by Judy at Patchwork Times.
As you can see
I am still missing the 4 corner blocks,
(and borders)
but am glad to have the blocks assembled
into the quilt's 'middle' section.
At least now I can't loose
or misplace them any longer...

And in preparation for
in May 2014,
I have started to sew HST's.
For ease and speed
I am using triangle paper
and it is perfect mindless sewing
after a day at work.
It may not look like much,
but these are 192 HST's (of 504 needed...),
size is 2 inch unfinished.
