Design Wall Monday

Well, after an almost no-sew week, I managed to get some things done on Sunday. Last minute, but still in time for design wall:

First off is the (original) completed 4-patch top for "Quilts for Kids". My plan was to add a 2nd quilt to the package - and that was quickly cut & sewn up today: the 'Bear in the woods' 4-patch.
And I had to dive in a started project bag and pull out string and scrap blocks - made out of the flannel leftovers from the last Project Linus Blanket Party. These blocks may not be the most creative way, but it was quite a workload to get all these narrow strips sewn up.
Next step will be to make square blocks out of the rectangular strings and add a border.
For the 'wonky log cabin' blocks I guess I have to add some kind of sashing to even them out in size. I will have a look around to see what wonky options are floating around in blog land.

Quiltathon

It seems there are a lot of "blue" projects going on during this weekend's quiltathon at Judy's Patchwork Times. So my blue-yellow Bits Of Sunshine quilt fits right in.

I managed to sew the blocks together and added the small inner yellow border. Now comes the outer border in blue bricks. The plan is to still get it on my short arm frame and get quilting with a panto started. We will see if that's not too tall of an order.

Anyways, meantime I may be sewing another flannel blanket for Project Linus - to keep my stash report on the "good" side.

This week I received 5 yards in the mail - I had won a gift certificate for an online fabric store, so my stash balance is tilting...

(Almost) finished Quilts

I have been quite busy this weekend and - TADA - quilted 2 quilts!

Yep, I did it the easy way with Quilt EZ templates from Linda @ Finely Finished Quilts, but nevertheless I am very pleased with the end result. One more Christmas gift (almost) done "Scotties Quilt" and a baby (panel) quilt for Project Linus.I used Random Stars on both. Now it's binding time for Scotties Quilt and it will finally move in the 'Done-Done' category and be delivered to the new -unsuspecting -owner early next week.
Furthermore I have been adding blocks to Bonnie Hunter's Carolina Christmas Mystery - and really like it!

Fleece blanket UFO

Recently I came across a fleece blanket package that I had forgotten about for a long time. I think they even have stopped selling these kits. Luckily it is a completed blanket by now, labeled for Project Linus and ready to be dropped off this weekend. So finally I have done some sewing again, even though it is no quilt.



I am preparing some fabric panels right now to put on my frame and get some much needed practice in, probably with an EZ board first.

Linus Blanket Party

I spent my Saturday morning and helped cut, sew, iron over 300 blankets. It was my first time with Project Linus and I just loved it. When lots of flannel, sponsored food and great inspiring people meet and organize sewing party - only good things can come out of it. Let's hope that all the beautiful blankets will make a difference in somebody's life!

Next party is in March 2010 and if I am in town I will definitely participate again.

Fur face

Before too much time goes by without a posting, here is what I have been working on. I am still in my knitting phase and it just seems easier to work on in small increments. No machine to pull out and easy to take along. And this Fun Fur yarn on size 11 needles goes real fast.

And here is a quick look at the Project Linus (finally washed!) flannels, so I am ready to go for a blanket part on Saturday. Can't wait to meet other sewing enthusiasts and create some cute blankets that hopefully will make a difference in the lifes of the kids.

As for my crafty endeavours I am trying to finish dragon sock # 2, though this may not happen during Socktober.

And I finally managed to be in town for the next Blanket Party for Project Linus and will be sewing blankets next Saturday. What a perfect name for a great charity!
