HSTeria Quilt Along

I can't believe it:
just finished the 2 charity HST quilts!
Wohoo, what a relief!
And then I saw
that Vicky was holding a
What a perfect occasion
to show all 3 HST charity quilt tops
I have sewn this 'guild' year:
# 1 - Zig Zag (done much earlier in the year)

# 2 HST concentric (still warm from pressing and adding the borders)

# 3 HST arrows (finished a few days ago)
They were all made with donated fabric,
GLHQ guild provided pre-cut packages
of 5 or 6 inch squares
+ border fabric.
Some I spiffed up a bit ;-)

thanks for hosting HSTeria QA -
it gave me the last push
to finish them up!

Design Wall Monday

Ok, after yet another unplanned blogging break
I am back with my latest projects:
finished the quilting on Hashtag quilt today
and just sewed the binding
to the front.
It's my April UFO
and I better get the binding
hand stitched to the back
by Wednesday April 30th...

Also sewn is the HST Charity top,
minus the border:
(oops, the quilt underneath
is showing on bottom edge, sorry)

And I have been playing around with Hexagons
for the Quilt Guild challenge:
used some Honeycomb "Sunnyside"
and Craftsy Class pattern "Juggle" by Camille Roskelley,
trying to decide on background fabric:
Then I got Sarah  Fielke's book
"Hand quilted with love"
from the library and
love her "Bangles quilt",
but not so much the hand sewing or y-seams.
So here is my easy Bangles approach:
sew 6 pentagons from her pattern into a hexie ring
and applique them on your background fabric!
See the first test ring on the left:

If I am attempting this quilt
I'll be using raw edge on white fabric,
even with some white edges showing thru
between the rings,
I imagine it's going to look fabulous!

So what have you been up to?
Hopefully some sewing made it into your schedule!

Back to sewing my binding,
the clock is ticking,

Design Wall Monday

After the GLHQ Guild's
Charity Sewing day on Saturday
I have been playing around with HST
for the final lay-out of this donation quilt:
So here comes my question to you:
do you like the left side better
or the right side?
I just changed the position
of the pinkish HST's
to a solid strip on left
and a 'broken' strip on  the right.
Thanks you for your feedback!

I also received a fabulous package in the mail
from my BQFF Judy -
have a look:
I just love the Log Cabin pillow
and it fits my living room colors perfectly.
And then she added
some Aurifil spools and bobbins
for my new 'used' Bernina 230 -
Yes, I am blessed to have such
fabulous and generous friends!
Thanks Judy,
you are the best!!!

Last week I tried my new EZ boards
Flamingo in 6 inch size
on a Charity quilt:
(Oops, it's sideways...)
The front was not too exciting
with cheater fabric,
but hopefully the quilt will help
keep someone warm
and feel loved!

Design Wall Monday

For a while now
I have been fascinated by Scrap Attack
hosted by Stitched in Color.
I checked out the tutorials and beautiful scrap quilt -
and finally got started.
But I couldn't make up my mind
which scrap block I liked most -
so I had to try several.
Have a look:
There is still some fine tuning going on
and not all rows have been sewn together yet.
But I like it!
It has scrumb blocks, left over HST's, strip blocks,
Granny square and hour glass blocks, and postage (well, a bit bigger).
I still meant to do the Japanese blocks as well,
but ran out of time. Oops.
First my lay-out
did not have the added white sashing,
and looked a bit dull & dreary.
Now with white it looks so much cleaner & fresher,
nice!
And the racing flag border (?) gives it a more finished look,
even though I will keep it on 2 sides only.

Hopefully I will be able to submit a finished top
to the Festival Of Scrappiness,
taking place March 26th - 28th!
